Mike Matthews founded Electro-Harmonix in 1968 with the release of the LPB-1 Power Booster, eventually forming a worldwide team of the most talented engineers, creatives, and musicians he could find to create imposing metal boxes with odd names that would change the sound and attitude of music forever. The story of Electro-Harmonix is far more than the story of a company and its products. Rather, it’s a testament to what can happen when you give people the room, trust, and resources to do their best work. The legacy of the BIG MUFF PI and the ELECTRIC MISTRESS are inarguable, but the people of Electro-Harmonix are the real story.

Josh Scott of JHS PEDALS and EHX archivist Daniel Danger have spent the last few years collecting, researching, and developing MADE ON EARTH FOR RISING STARS: THE EHX STORY, the definitive visual history of Electro-Harmonix from 1968 through the 2000s, studying everything from Mike Matthews himself to the workers on the floor, from circuit designers to those seeking to cure death, from flying machines to disco towers— all while filling entire rooms with never-before-seen relics, prototypes, unreleased pedals, documents, photos, and stories. But they're not finished yet.

Josh and Daniel now need YOUR help.

ABOUT THE
PROJECT

It’s important that this book not just reflect the famous rock stars but the real people who supported and loved EHX for the past five decades. Can you contribute to this story? Let us know. Josh and Daniel need photos of your bands from the 1960s-1990s with visible EHX products, on the stage, in the studio, at home, or on the road. Did you get a BIG MUFF for Christmas? Did you paint it psychedelic colors? Did you own a music store and have photos of the store displays? Did you or someone you know work at EHX? Did you meet Mike at a trade show and go fishing with him? Did any famous players buy an EHX pedal from you?
